Safety Companion
Job Description
FSN is seeking a compassionate Safety Companion to join our team. The Safety Companion provides continuous 1:1 observation and support for patients who require close monitoring to ensure their safety and well-being. This role is critical in preventing falls, self-harm, or interference with medical treatment, while promoting a calm and supportive environment for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide constant, direct observation of assigned patient(s) at all times.
- Ensure patient safety by identifying and responding to potential risks
- Maintain a safe environment by removing hazards and notifying nursing staff of safety concerns.
- Assist with basic non-clinical patient needs (e.g., repositioning, comfort measures) as directed.
- Communicate promptly and effectively with nursing staff regarding any change in patient behavior or condition.
- Document observations and activities in accordance with hospital policies.
- Use de-escalation techniques to support patients experiencing confusion, anxiety, or distress.
- Follow all hospital safety protocols, infection control procedures, and patient privacy standards (HIPAA).
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in caregiving or behavioral health in a hospital setting
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong communication and observational skills.
- Ability to remain attentive and focused for extended periods.
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to assist with light patient movement or repositioning.
- Visual and auditory acuity to monitor patient activity continuously.
Shift & Schedule:
- Day shift: 5x8 or 4x10
