Pathologists' Assistant
Job Description
FSN is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Pathologists' Assistant (PA) to join our team. Under the supervision of a pathologist, the PA plays a critical role in the examination, dissection, and processing of surgical specimens, contributing to accurate and timely diagnoses that guide patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens, including biopsies and complex resections
- Describe specimens accurately and submit appropriate tissue sections for histologic evaluation
- Assist pathologists with autopsies, including organ dissection and documentation of findings
- Ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, and preservation
- Photograph specimens and maintain detailed records of gross findings
- Collaborate with pathology staff to ensure efficient workflow and turnaround times
- Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, infection control, and regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission)
- Assist in teaching and training residents, medical students, or lab staff as needed
- Participate in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program (NAACLS accredited)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pathologists' Assistant
- Current ASCP certification (PA(ASCP))
- Strong understanding of anatomy, pathology, and laboratory procedures
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Shift & Schedule:
- Day shifts: 5x8
