Position Summary

Flagstar Staffing, Inc. is seeking a compassionate, dependable Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a School Nurse at a partner school campus in San Antonio, Texas for the 2026–2027 school year. The School Nurse serves as the campus health resource, delivering direct nursing care to students, managing chronic health conditions, conducting Texas state-mandated screenings, and maintaining compliance with immunization and health-records requirements. This role works closely with campus administrators, teachers, counselors, and families to keep students healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing assessment, first aid, and emergency care for students and staff who become ill or injured during the school day; triage and coordinate EMS response when indicated.
  • Administer medications and perform nursing procedures (e.g., diabetes care, G-tube feedings, catheterization, nebulizer treatments) in accordance with provider orders, district policy, and the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
  • Develop, implement, and update Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans for students with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, and life-threatening allergies.
  • Conduct and document Texas state-mandated screenings, including vision, hearing, spinal, and Type 2 diabetes risk assessment (acanthosis nigricans); complete required referrals, follow-up, and reporting.
  • Monitor student immunization records for compliance with Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements; manage provisional enrollments, exemptions, and exclusions, and submit required reports.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential student health records in the district's electronic health record / student information system in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student illness, injury, screening results, and follow-up care; provide health education and community resource referrals.
  • Train, supervise, and delegate to unlicensed assistive personnel (health aides, clinic assistants) in accordance with Texas Board of Nursing delegation rules.
  • Participate in ARD/IEP and Section 504 meetings; contribute to health-related accommodations and services for students with special needs.
  • Support documentation for School Health and Related Services (SHARS) Medicaid billing, as applicable.
  • Implement infection-control practices; monitor and report communicable diseases in coordination with the district and the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.
  • Maintain clinic supplies, medication logs, AED and emergency equipment checks, and required health-services documentation and reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid multistate RN license under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN required; BSN preferred).
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (American Heart Association).
  • Minimum one (1) year of nursing experience; pediatric, school, camp, or community health experience strongly preferred.
  • Current Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screening certification, completed through a DSHS-approved certification course offered by a Texas Education Service Center (e.g., Region 10 ESC).
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently as the sole healthcare provider on campus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (American Heart Association).
  • Prior school nursing experience in a Texas public school district or charter school.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience with electronic student health record systems (e.g., SNAP Health Center, Skyward, Frontline).
  • Experience managing delegated diabetes care in a school setting.

Compliance & Pre-Placement Requirements

  • National fingerprint-based criminal history background check (Texas DPS/FBI), as required under the Texas Education Code.
  • Current negative TB screening and immunization records per district and client policy.
  • Drug screening, as required by district or client policy.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Requires standing, walking, bending, and moving throughout the campus for extended periods; lifting and/or assisting students as needed (up to approximately 50 lbs with assistance); and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies anywhere on campus. May involve exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids, with appropriate PPE and universal precautions.
