Job Description

Join our team as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant (PNA) and make a meaningful difference in patients' lives. We are seeking compassionate, dedicated professionals to provide high-quality direct care within a secure mental health environment.

Position Details:

  • Shift Availability:
    • Morning: 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM
    • Evening: 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM
    • Night: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Days: Sunday through Saturday
  • Term: Initial 6-month engagement with possible extension
  • Location: Terrell State Hospital, a facility specializing in inpatient mental health treatment, including patients with dual diagnoses

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing direct patient care in a psychiatric inpatient setting
  • Assisting with activities of daily living to promote patient comfort and independence
  • Monitoring vital signs and observing patient behavior for safety and therapeutic responses
  • Responding promptly to emergencies and safety concerns
  • Maintaining accurate documentation through computer data entry
  • Adhering to facility policies and procedures to meet accreditation standards, including Joint Commission, CMS, and HHSC guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a psychiatric mental health technician or aide
  • Willingness to work in a mental health setting with patients who may have complex behavioral health and dual diagnoses
  • Commitment to following HHSC and facility rules, regulations, and policies
  • Ability to comply with immunization, drug testing, fingerprinting, and required training mandates
  • Current certification in CPR/BLS from the American Heart Association, with ongoing certification maintained during employment
