Job Description

FSN is seeking a dedicated inpatient Psychiatrist to join our team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a specialized forensic psychiatric setting, providing compassionate care to the Texas NGRI population. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team in a secure environment, with a focus on inpatient mental health treatment and courtroom testimony, making a meaningful difference in patients' lives.

Position Details:

  • Location: Kerrville State Hospital
  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. No after-hours or weekend call commitments.
  • Start Date: Immediate, with a 6-month contract possibility for extension, pending completion of clearance requirements.
  • On-site Presence: Preferred at least 25%, with a majority of duties performed on campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care, including psychiatric assessments and treatment plans.
  • Conduct face-to-face evaluations of dually diagnosed adult patients in a residential setting.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including managing restraints as necessary.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, such as quarterly Quality System Overview (QSO) chart reviews.
  • Prepare and provide physician court paperwork and testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Collaborate with staff nurse practitioners and other healthcare professionals.
  • Attend medical staff meetings and contribute to the ongoing development of hospital protocols and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas Medical License issued by the Texas Medical Board with no sanctions.
  • Active DEA certification.
  • Current ACLS or AHA-approved CPR certification, maintained throughout employment.
  • Prior experience working with mentally ill, dually diagnosed adult patients in a forensic or inpatient setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, secure environment adhering to hospital and state regulations.
  • Willingness to work in a residential facility focused on inpatient mental health.
