Position Overview:
As a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room, you will be a vital member of the surgical team, providing expert perioperative care to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate smooth and efficient surgical procedures while maintaining the highest standards of sterile technique and infection control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the circulating nurse, managing patient identification, verifying informed consent, ensuring proper positioning, and documenting intraoperative events accurately.
- Maintain meticulous surgical counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps in partnership with the scrub technician, ensuring safety and compliance throughout all phases of surgery.
- Facilitate effective communication among the surgical team, anesthesia providers, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to promote seamless patient transfer and continuity of care.
- Anticipate the needs of surgeons by preparing and managing implants, specialized equipment, and supplies, all while adhering to strict sterile techniques in accordance with AORN standards.
- Uphold infection control protocols and hospital policies to create a safe, efficient, and compliant operating environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum of 2 years of perioperative nursing experience in an acute hospital operating room setting.
- Valid and current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and CNOR certification are preferred.
- Proven ability to perform circulating nurse duties confidently and effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary surgical team.
