Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Position Details:

• Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 13-week contract
• Schedule: Every Other Weekend & Holiday coverage (must be available for holidays as needed)
• Location: For qualified candidates residing more than 75 miles from the facility (radius rule applies)
• Charting System: EPIC experience required

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver attentive, high-quality nursing care to patients on cardiac telemetry and step-down units, including those with pulmonary conditions, post-surgical recoveries, or other intermediate care needs.
• Perform continuous patient assessments, promptly recognizing signs of deterioration and initiating escalation protocols or rapid response interventions to ensure safety.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicians, therapists, and case managers—to facilitate patient mobilization, discharge planning, and recovery.
• Administer medications, manage IV infusions (non-titrated), oxygen therapy, wound care, and respiratory treatments, ensuring accurate documentation in EPIC.
• Manage cardiac drips, blood products, central lines, peripheral IVs, and enforce infection control and isolation precautions.
• Maintain appropriate patient-to-nurse ratios (approximately 3–4 patients per nurse), delivering personalized and comprehensive care.

Required Clinical Skills and Qualifications:

• Proven experience in telemetry and step-down care (PCU, DOU, IMC).
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response, including use of Rapid Response and Code teams.
• Demonstrated ability to manage airway support via nasal cannula and non-invasive ventilation techniques.
• Skilled in managing cardiac infusions, blood products, and vascular access devices (central and peripheral lines).
• Current RN license
• ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent hospital-based progressive care experience.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree.
• Candidates must be non-local, residing more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted.
